Every rose garden is a breathtaking view of a variety of colors,
hues, shapes, and sizes. No two roses are alike and every rose deserves
recognition for the beauty that it possesses. However, of all of
the rose varieties, there may be none other as striking as dark
purple roses. Dark purple roses come in an assortment of tones and
the color and richness of each rose will depend upon the breed you
select. When used in the garden, dark purple roses are sure to add
variety and look splendid with other plants as well. It is important
to ensure that you space your roses according to the recommendations
that come with your plant to ensure that they grow in the best possible
manner.
Dark purple roses look splendid by themselves, or when nestled
amongst other roses of contrasting colors. You can add visual appeal
by sprinkling purple roses between white and pink roses, or by grouping
them together as a central focal point. Some of the dark purple
roses are sometimes referred to as black roses, so it is important
to make certain that you are in fact, planting dark purple and not
black roses.
Many of the purple roses are from the English or Austin Variety
while others are hybrids or crosses between other roses. Though
every gardener would love to have purple roses, it’s important
to select roses that are best suited for your hardiness zones. Though
the avid gardener may attempt to grow a beautiful specimen indoors
in a container, the novice gardener may find the results to be disappointing.
However, don’t give up. Keep trying different purple roses
until you find the one that rewards you with many years of fragrant
violet blooms. Take your time to research each rose until you find
the one that is best suited for your needs.
Here are some of the most widely known varieties of dark purple
roses. The Purple Tiger rose is a beautiful mauve shade and is revered
for its extremely fragrant blooms. It grows between 24-36 inches
in height and is widely appreciated for its striped appearance.
The Purple Tiger is a stunning attraction to any rose garden and
is highly valued by rose enthusiasts.
Another beautiful purple rose is the Louis XIV. These roses ranged
from a sultry deep red to stunning black. It picks up a variety
of purple hues along the way. For those looking for a striking velvety
purple rose, the Louis XIV is sure to impress. This rose is best
suited for those in Zone 6.
With its deep pinks to dark purples, the Prospero rose is another
wonderful addition to the colorful rose garden. Suitable for those
in zones 5b through 10b, the Prospero rose may also thrive in other
zone climates, as long as provisions are made to ensure its protection
from the elements. Prospero is known for thriving in containers,
as it is a smaller rose, averaging less than 2 feet in height.
The Prince is a vibrant purple English Rose that grows to about
3 feet in height. It is recommended for zones 5a through 10 a, and
ranges in shades from deep red to purple. It is known for its strong
fragrance and blooms repeatedly in late spring and early summer.
